Barreirinha beach complex is located east of Funchal near the old part of the city (Zona Velha). Offering direct sea access, great swimming conditions, a saltwater pool, lifeguard surveillance and good facilities. |

Praia de Sao Tiago is located by the famous yellow Forte Sao Tiago, in the old part of the town of Funchal. This beach is a good option to enjoy a relaxed swim, especially during the week after a long day's work. It’s a free public beach with only shower facilities and plenty sunbathing space. |

Lido pool complex is located in a very well known tourist area. The most popular pool with direct sea access in Funchal, it also has a long promenade connecting to Praia Formosa beach. This complex consists of two seawater swimming pools which are cleaned and filled daily. One is large, the other a separate children’s pool with a play area and water slide. Restaurants, a children’s playground and many sport activities are there to enjoy.

Praia do Gorgulho is a small free public pebble beach located along the Lido promenade in a privileged location with excellent water quality. This beach has no lifeguard surveillance but has showers, WC and is near Bars and Restaurants. |

Ponta Gorda pool complex is located around a tourist area promenade in Funchal. It has direct sea access, two pools and a children’s pool with a covered play area, a restaurant and a snack bar.

Doca do Cavacas is a small pool complex just a few minutes walk from Praia Formosa. It has natural volcanic pools and direct access to sea with changing rooms, lifeguard surveillance, Restaurants and Bars. This complex is quite small. If crowded, hop over to Praia Formosa through the nearby connecting tunnel (closed). |

Praia Formosa is the largest free public beach on Madeira Island. Located west of Funchal, it consists of four mix sandy and pebble beaches, known as Praia Nova, Praia Formosa, Praia dos Namorados and Praia do Arieiro, all offering excellent water quality, Blue Flag certified and having great facilities such as, parking, sport activities, skate board ramp, changing rooms, lifeguard surveillance, snack bars and Restaurants and a children’s play area. Also along the seaside is the starting point of a long promenade linking to Lido beach. |
