São Jorge

São Jorge; a peaceful village located in the north of the island with spectacular views over the mountains and sea, offering many walking paths. Of particular interest are the levada channels, which crisscross the countryside taking you through the protected Laurissilva forest on a pleasant nature adventure.
Besides its nature São Jorge is perhaps the most fertile of all the northern villages producing all types of agricultural products, specially its land supports sugar cane cultivation and also the Malvasia wine from which the famous Madeira wine is made.
Further along is the lookout point (Miradouro) where you can experience the beautiful dramatic coastline and views to Arco de São Jorge.
