Madeira Bird Watching

Bird watching has become very popular in Madeira Island with many excellent locations and reserves around the archipelago. Madeira has a large variety of land and sea birds, 42 breeding species, endemic Macaronesian species some of which only exist in Madeira.

Madeira Island is a great birdwatching destination due to its unique position and ecosystem, many bird species can easily be observed here starting with the land birds, such as the Trocaz Pigeon, Berthelot's Pipit, Buzzard Buteo, Sparrow hawk and a number of sea birds, such as the Fea's Petrel, Zino's Petrel, Cory's, Manx, Little, Great shearwater, Madeiran Storm-petrel, Atlantic Yellow-legged Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull and Ring-billed Gull.
